Pas op voor Engelstalige, opvallende reacties als u een advertentie op een online handelssite heeft geplaatst. Lijkt deze reactie te mooi om waar te zijn, dan is dat vrijwel zeker ook zo!

De Fraudehelpdesk waarschuwt voor oplichters die op deze manier werken. U wordt bijvoorbeeld benaderd door een geïnteresseerde die op het moment in het buitenland, bijvoorbeeld Afghanistan, verblijft. De koper laat blijken geïnteresseerd te zijn, maar helaas niet in staat te zijn het object zelf te bekijken alvorens hij het koopt. In de door de koper verstuurde e-mail laat hij verder blijken dat hij de aanbieder vertrouwt en dat hij beschikt over een groot geldbedrag. Dit bedrag zal via een door hem bedachte constructie bij de aanbieder terecht komen.

Dergelijke reacties blijken vaak te mooi zijn om waar te zijn.

De fraudeurs gaan verschillend te werk. Zo zou u een melding kunnen krijgen dat er geld op uw rekening is gestort. Echter blijkt na verloop van tijd, wanneer u het object reeds geleverd heeft, dat er helemaal geen sprake is van een betaling. Een andere werkwijze dat de fraudeurs kunnen hanteren is dat zij u vragen om hen te helpen bij het vrijmaken van geld waar zij tot beschikken. Na verloop van tijd geven zij aan dat er onvoorziene kosten zijn bijgekomen om het geld over te maken en of u deze kunt overmaken vaak via een money transfer kantoor. Wanneer u dit zou doen bent u het geld kwijt en zult u het beloven geld nooit ontvangen.
